Google set to move Pittsburgh office
Google Inc have announced plans to move it’s Pittsburgh office into the new Bakery Square development in East Liberty.
The computer technology firm have had offices in Carnergie Mellon University for the past 4 years but have now announced plans to relocate to accommodate the firm’s growth. On Friday, they announced they had leased 40,000 square feet of office space in Bakery Street and will move there in summer 2010. Currently the firm have around 100 employees at their Pittsburgh office but have said the “sky is the limit” when it comes to hiring in the future. It’s believed this latest move could add a much-needed boost to the Pittsburgh economy.
The new Bakery Square project cost $113 million and is based at the former Nabisco bakery plant. Once finished the project will bring offices, retail, a fitness center, a hotel and a parking garage to East Liberty. The retail section is due to open in Spring.
Google will occupy the sixth and seventh floors of the building along Penn Avenue. Currently the only other tenant of the building is a Pitt lab on the fourth floor. The bottom 2 floors are designed for retail and restaurant space.
Google are now believed to be “aggressively hiring” to fill the new extra space. For more information of the new jobs, visit Google.
Google Pittsburgh Director Andrew Moore said; “We are so excited about the feel, location and history of Bakery Square — just the right kind of place for this growing bunch of creative software engineers to be building some of the next generation of Google products.”
