Florence library to become offices

A historical building in Florence  that was once The Florence County Memorial Library will now be leased as office space.

It has been reported that Turner Padget Graham & Laney have signed the lease on the site at 319 Irby Street. Approximately 20,000 sq ft of office space will be freed in the property.

Built as a library and opened to serve the public on November 4th 1925, the new plans for a modern office renovation are in stark contrast to its original purpose.

State owned offices sold to ease debt

According to recent news, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has bid hasta la vista to 24 California state offices across 11 sites, a sale forced out of necessity for the struggling state to recoup debt money.

Buildings will be sold and leased back to the state for a minimum of 20 years and bids are being assessed for office spaces across LA, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, Oakland and Sacramento.

They are expected to contribute towards the goal of $2 billion to pay off long term debts.

Aqua Tower awarded Skyscraper of the Year 2009

The Aqua tower in Lease Chicago office space to rentChicago, has this week been awarded Skyscraper of the Year for 2009.

Emporis is a worldwide indexer of buildings and collates data on the global property market. The annual Emporis Skyscraper Award is the most prestigious of its kind to honour the world’s tallest architectures and comes as welcome praise for the Chicago structure.

Aqua is the third tallest building in the world designed by a female architect.

Motorola consider office move

Telecoms giant Motorola might be changing their phone number as plans to relocate to new California offices emerge.

Departments that handle the sale of handsets and set-top box units could soon find themselves in new office space down in Silicon Valley pending a planned company demerger.

Acquisition for WEG Motors drives expansion

WEG Electrical Motors Corp. has relocated its main offices to 6655 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth, Georgia.

Formerly based at 1327 Northbrook Parkway, Suwanee, the firm which specialises in global supply of motors, controls, frequency drives and generators, has acquired 50,000 sq ft of new office space.

Senator calls for commercial real estate answers

Recent reports state that U.S. Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd has expressed concerns for the current commercial real estate climate and has called for increased focus from regulators.

He wanted to establish exactly what was being done in regards to the Federal Reserve’s responsibility to stabilize the dire state of the American commercial property market.

Controversial $500m Connecticut offices for RBS

Scottish banking firm the Royal Bank of Scotland has bought a $500 million new Connecticut campus to house its US investment banking and Greenwich Capital market employees.

In the climate of the credit crunch, RBS was cagey in revealing its new plans for the expansion, preferring to concentrate their efforts on restoring the faith of British taxpayers having warranted a government bailout of $71 billion.

Hailed as a morale booster, British opinion may take a dimmer perspective of the bank responsible for recording the largest ever loss for a UK company spending on new pastures so soon. The loss was approximately $35 billion.

US government urged to do its home work

The US federal government has been encouraged to provide more opportunities for federal employees to work at home.

Figures from the Office of Personnel Management predict that approximately 30 percent of all federal staff worked from home at some point in the past week. Snowbound office workers are left without connections to their workplace when left stranded at home, however the government has been urged to do more to promote work from home.

Downtown Kent gets $20 million development

The Kent Central Gateway Project is due to receive a lump sum boost through the federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant to its proposed development of the Kent Multimodal Transportation Center.

Plans for the center focus on developing the area between Depeyster and Erie Streets in downtown Kent in Portage County.

Sky’s the limit for Federal Way tower

Seattle real estate developer Steve Smith unveiled plans for an impressive 45-storey condo tower in Federal Way scheduled for completion in 2014.

The project is backed by two Korean-American business partners Luke Hwang and Pom Kwak.
